Building Restoration and Building Conservation

Silvermines
The stabilisation and reconstruction of five 19th Century historic mine buildings at Ballygowen and Shallee, Silvermines, Co Tipperary. These buildings had been derelict for over 120 years and were built of brick and/or stone. The conservation works had to be sensitive to the age and style of the buildings (ie similar to the historic mine buildings in Cornwall). and involved the following:
  • Vegetation removal
  • Mortar Analysis
  • Replacement of oak lintels
  • Rebuild/Repair brick arches
  • Brick Stitching
  • Flaunching of cappings
  • Taking down and salvage of stone
  • Repointing
  • Rebuild of chimney stacks
